DESCRIPTION

One Night Stand (Paris) is a psuedo-performative work resolved as a black, subtitled video. The subtitles are derived from notes that were written during the course of a trip from New York to Paris, which lasted one evening. The writing and subsequent subtitles, address the experience of displacement and solitude, against the iconic city of Paris and a history of its own representation. The video takes inspiration from the nouveau roman movement in 1950s and 60s French literature, which favored pure description and the use of repetition over traditional narrative structures. The subtitles generically follow the reading pace of watching a foreign language film.
